Learning with George Couros
On April 7th and 8th George Couros came to the York Catholic District School Board to speak with our 21C teams, administrators, and Curriculum staff about innovative change. Here is a brief overview and reflections (from Twitter) of our learning, in case you missed it.
This is one of the first videos Couros showed us. It's a great metaphor for how doing things differently might give us a more positive perspective and inspire us to more innovative change.
Couros drew from his experiences as a Divisional Principal and Leader, but more so shared his own life and family experiences to show us that relationships come before anything else in teaching and learning.
There wasn't a dry eye in the room when George showed us this video showcasing the transformational power of technology. Look a the awe and wonder in Lachlan's eyes when he hears his mother's voice for the first time. How can we use technology to inspire awe and wonder in our students?
He reminded us that we need to be learners alongside our students and encouraged YCDSB teachers to get on Twitter and get connected to other educators.
And not only did he encourage our teachers to connect only to walk away; he really did empower our teachers by actually connecting with them. His philosophy: Whether a person has 1 or 10 000 followers, a good idea, is a good idea!
As a result, our #ycdsb21c hashtag is now brimming with teachers who are sharing their ideas with one another!
