The Truth About Attacks on Iowa's Public Lands

Below you will find links and information about Iowa House efforts over the past two years to limit access to public lands - and even consider their sale.

  1. During the 2011 legislation session, Iowa House Republicans proposed legislation that would have BANNED the acquisition of state public lands in Iowa HF 45 (detailed below)

  2. "Land Purchase - Prohibits the Department of Natural Resources from purchasing more land. This does not include donated property.  The bill reduces the appropriation for the Iowa Resources Enhancement and Protection Fund (REAP) by $3.06 million for FY 2011. This provision is effective upon enactment."
  3. Now, the effort has come back.  Iowa House Speaker Kraig Paulsen and Rep. Peter Cownie have made it a Republican House priority to limit the ownership of public lands by the Iowa DNR in the name of "efficiency"
