Advocates and Allies Agree: Discriminatory Legislation in Indiana is Unacceptable

Last week, Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed the so-called “Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” despite protests from corporations and civil rights leaders. Over the weekend, more LGBT advocates and allies joined HRC in condemning Pence, arguing that this bill will allow individuals to use religion as an excuse to discriminate against LGBT people and other minorities.

  1. On Saturday, Angie’s List announced it was stopping its campus expansion project in Indianapolis over concerns of Indiana’s new anti-LGBT law.
  2. Over the weekend, Angie's List joined other tech companies and leaders, including CA Technologies, Apple and Microsoft and Salesforce, who also announced their opposition.
  3. Celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres, Andy Cohen, Audra McDonald and Ashton Kutcher, took to social media to voice their concern.
  4. Politicians also voiced their opposition.
  5. On Saturday, the NBA, WNBA, NFL and NCAA, along with local universities, voiced their concern for the state's new RFRA.
  6. On Sunday morning, during an appearance on ABC's This Week, Governor Mike Pence added insult to injury when he repeatedly refused to answer simple questions about Indiana's laws and critical legal protections for LGBT Hoosiers.
