Santa Barbara shooting suspect's videos detail his loneliness, longing for a girlfriend
Elliot Rodger, 22, left behind a string of YouTube videos detailing his misery, as he calls it. Though he doesn’t specifically mention rejection, he often address “you girls” collectively, asking why they never took an interest and regularly listing his BMW and good looks as reasons why they should.
- Many of his videos dwell on a single theme — loneliness — and are underscored with a repeating tagline: "Life is so unfair." He also often addresses women in his videos as "you girls."In one video, he is seen walking around near a road clearly less traveled, pleading for them to give him a chance. "I mean look at me. I'm gorgeous, but you girls don't see it. I don't understand why you girls are repulsed by me," he says. He also talks about the fact that he drives a BMW, presumably the car he sits in during most of his video clips. In another video he states, "You girls have made me cruel."
- Not every video dwells on despair. In one video, he dances — while driving — with Whitney Houston's 1985 hit "How Will I Know?" blaring in the background. In another, he enjoys a sunset (coffee in hand) from another secluded spot, with Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" playing loudly throughout the clip.
