The incredibly brief history of the "Jedi Mind Meld"
The origin of the "Jedi mind meld" is a presidential flub from a March 1 press briefing on sequestration. The president mixed his Jedi mind tricks from the Star Wars franchise with Vulcan mind melds from Star Trek.
- "No, no, I understand. And — and I — and I — I know that this has been some of the conventional wisdom that’s been floating around Washington that somehow, even though most people agree that I’m being reasonable, that most people agree I’m presenting a fair deal, the fact that they don’t take it means that I should somehow, you know, do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what’s right." - Barack Obama (19:05)
- But the current administration is not one to let a sci-fi pop-culture reference pass by -- not even a muddled one. The White House launched wh.gov/jedimindmeld, which redirects to the president's sequestration plan. And its official account tweeted the following image:

- We've already seen the president and other federal officials showing off their light-saber skills, and the administration's response to building a Death Star was widely reported.
