One Digital Meetup Dundee

5th October 2016, RRS Discovery

  1. One Digital Meetups are all about inspiration and there was lots of inspiration to be had from our venue alone in Dundee - the RRS Discovery! We may not have been on the Discovery ship itself but we certainly enjoyed the view. Quite fitting for our very own digital journey of discovery.
  2. There was a great turn out with over 20 people from across Dundee and the surrounding area from a range of charities and voluntary groups all keen to talk digital. One Digital Development Officer, Eilidh Little kicked proceedings off and shared a short film about Tayberry Enterprise who took part in the One Digital training earlier in May.
  3. Digital Stories Dundee
  4. We're still talking to people when we use digital to communicate - a key message to remember from Peggy Hughes of Literary Dundee who was up first to tell us about how they use social media to generate interest in their campaigns and to engage with existing and new audiences. This years Literary Dundee Festival on 19th-23rd October is sure to be a huge success!
  5. Trust, transparency and tickly throats were the order of the day next. Parven Kaur, Community Engagement Officer for Dundee's International Women's Centre advised us on how to structure a social media plan and utilise the free tools out there to make your content amazing, in turn generating trust and transparency to the local community and funders. She shared so much digital inspiration she almost lost her voice!
  6. There was lots of 'yammering' and little 'slacking' off when Leah Lockhart shared her top tips for collaboration tools next. The need for leadership to embrace new ways of working together was a key takeaway.
  7. What do you mean the internet isn't magic? A reality check from SCVO's Head of Digital Participation, Sally Dyson sharing her people and digital insights and telling us all about Good HQ - a platform for people to support the charities and causes they care about, share experiences and discover new ways to get involved. The place to be for any third sector organisation or group out there!
