Better Thank The Book #2: "The Shawshank Redemption"

Here are the tweets from last night's screening of "The Shawshank Redmeption" in my Better Than The Book film class at Bridgewater State University.

  1. First impressions/background....
  2. #299ENGL Pay attention to the three scenes where Red goes before the parole board.
  3. #299ENGL They serve as the overall arc and were some among Morgan Freeman's favorites
  4. #299ENGL #shawshank The mug shot in Red's parole file is of Morgan Freeman's son.
  5. #299ENGL #shawshank Director Frank Darabont drew inspiration for voice overs by watching Goodfellas every Sunday during filming/writing
  6. #299ENGL #shawshank Lead originally offered to Tom Hanks, who couldn't take it because of conflicts with the filming of Forest Gump.
  7. #299ENGL #shawshank Other actors considered for Andy: Cruise, Cage, Depp, Sheen. Kevin Costner turned role down to film Waterworld.
  8. @CopeWrites #299ENGL I'm glad that Tim Robbins got the lead role, I could't imagine anyone else. What an amazing role!
  9. @CopeWrites #299ENGL I wish Morgan Freeman could narrate my life, but instead I'll settle for Shawshank Redemption :)
  10. Andy Meets Red/First Act Break....
  11. #299ENGL This scene took 9 hours to film, Freeman throwing ball the whole time. He came to work wearing a sling the next day
  12. 'Why do they call you Red? Maybe it's because I'm Irish.' #299ENGL
  13. Tarring The Roof....
  14. #299ENGL This is a memory play: if the guards seem overly harsh, remember that the story is being told from Red's memory/point of view.
  15. #299ENGL The prisoners are drinking Stroh's beer on the roof. Beer bottles didn't have screw tops in 1949.
  16. #299ENGL If you haven't seen this film before, do you think Andy is innocent at this point? Why or why not?
  17. @CopeWrites I go in between thinking he is innocent or guilty. He seems a little insane sometimes. #299engl
  18. So far I'm not a big fan of shawshank.... I can't stomach parts of it, in #299ENGL
