Ottawa teen dies after rugby mishap

Rowan Stringer, 17, dies several days after suffering a head injury.

  1. Rowan Stringer was a student at John McCrae Secondary School in Ottawa.
  2. Rowan was severely injured in game on May 8. Teammates and friends sent her messages of support on Twitter and Facebook. 
  3. Sadly, on Monday, May 13, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board released an official statement saying that Rowan had died from her injuries.

  5. Even more messages poured in mourning the young woman.

  7. Messages also came in from Canadian national rugby men's team players such as Matt Evans, former national women's team player Meghan Mutrie and NHL player Simon Gagne. 
  8. Several sports bodies sent messages of support including the Ottawa Catholic school board, Rugby Canada and Ottawa RIngette. 
  9. Despite the tragedy, many commented on how the young athlete Rowan was still able to help others after her death, through organ donation.
