Zynga or Facebook? Game On!
Mark Pincus, CEO & President of the gaming powerhouse Zynga interviewed on CNBC's Closing Bell today. This was his first interview in nearly 2 years (!!) where he discussed growing revenues, evolution of the Zynga platform and why $ZNGA stock is down.
- Investors want to know: Can Zynga reduce its dependence on Facebook? Can it launch hit mobile games? Can it get more users to pay to play? Mark Pincus says that "it starts with our products and our players". (Well, yes, where else would it start?) They are working on bringing new games to the audience wherever they are, specifically, on mobile devices.
- Pincus says there is symbiotic relationship between Zynga and Facebook. Facebook is Zynga's largest partner (responsible for over 90% of their revenue right now) but Zynga will be working towards a larger advertising network and encouraging pay to play tactics so they can grow independently.
- #Zynga $ZNGA Mark Pincus: my job is to focus on delivering long-term revenue growth. @CNBCClosingBell

- Many have faith in the future of Zynga:
- @cnbcclosingbell social ntwrk mania may fizzle out, unlike gaming which evolved since last 30 years on various platforms, zynga is my bet
- @cnbcclosingbell $znga > $FB there is a better ROI possibility and are slowly branching away from their FB dependency. Leaders of industry
- @CNBCClosingBell Zynga, it will be able to adjust itself to the next hot tech toy while Facebook will fade out.
- And many stand strong by Facebook:
- @CNBCClosingBell: Facebook for sure. A bigger company and it just hired its first female director. What does Zynga have again?
- @CNBCClosingBell I'm betting on Facebook. They are moving forward and addressing street concerns, while Zynga is just copying other games.
- @CNBCClosingBell I prefer Facebookover Znga. Mark Pincus is not very impressive.
- @CNBCClosingBell I have money in FB. More information on users = more upside (I hope!)
- @cnbcclosingbell ZNGA = another gaming company. FB = sole worldwide social network and real competitor to GOOG. The answer is clear.
- Unsurprisingly, some people were not optimistic about it either.
- @CNBCClosingBell Wouldn't bet on either $FB or $ZNGA, trade what you see, not what you want. Charts don't lie!
- @cnbcclosingbell Both stocks are excellent investments. By the time market investors figure it out, many of us will be making nice profits.
- @cnbcclosingbell Neither of both. They are still overpriced for their ad based business model.
- @cnbcclosingbell zynga is as vulnerable as facebook. Until zynga can fully diversify its revenue sources both are bad investments
- A lot of viewers were not impressed by Pincus' interviewing performance, criticizing his delivery of Zynga's vision and weak business model.
