Burtify: Storifying a Visit to CNBC HQ

Storify co-founder Burt Herman stopped by CNBC Headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, NJ today and we thought, "What better way to share all the news than by Storifying the special event?" And Storify it we did...

  1. Meet Burt:
  2. Storify Co-founder @burtherman has a fascinating background as reporter, embedded in iraq, north Korea, Uzbekistan. He gets journalists.
  3. Meet CNBC's Social Media Team:
  4. After meeting the team and a quick visit through the CNBC Newsroom, the Social Team sat down with Burt to discuss Storify, learn more about the companies' visions and to take a peek at some of the behind-the-scenes happenings.
  5. Sorry, Amanda, he's married.

We later found out there was some mad social integration in the Herman nuptials too:
  6. Last nugget given from @burtherman in his meeting with the @CNBCSocial team? "My wedding was @Storify'd." (Link: cnb.cx/KVrQJd)
  7. We began by asking Burt to tell us more about Storify's vision & what it has set out to accomplish. Herman said that he and Xavier Damman (Co-founder/CEO at Storify) noticed millions of status updates, videos and social posts sent out daily & wanted to make sense out of it.
  8. "how do we bring together news and social media in a way that's meaningful?" @burtherman
  9. Storify wants to "make meaning from the noise." In fact, @burtherman says this thought lives on his Twitter background.
  10. Here is @burtherman's Twitter background. Can you find the meaning? (Hint: It's on the top left and in red.)
  11. It was at that point that he felt his side and noticed all 7 of us were heavily tweeting tidbits from the meeting.
  12. Best moment ever in a meeting: Meeting presenter says "You guys are tweeting about this. I can feel my phone going off in my pocket."
  13. @storify cofounder @burtherman in our cnbc meeting: "I can feel you guys are tweeting everything I say!!" in response to all phones out
  14. Much laughter followed.

The conversation with Burt ran for about 45 minutes and some interesting points were brought up:
  15. "What would the AP be like if you'd create it today?" --@burtherman, Storify co-founder
  16. "We want to re-think how stories are told fundamentally." --@Storify's @burtherman
