- Many thanks to all of the volunteers and organizers whose efforts made yesterday's Blue Ridge Marathon a truly memorable event in which to participate. Also a huge thanks to all of my wonderful family and friends whose support and encouragement provided the energy and motivation to help me finish the 26.2 miles over a very challenging course. I believe 'America's Toughest Road Marathon' is aptly named. It doesn't matter in what time we finished, but just that we were out there running and walking through incredibly beautiful surroundings with friendly crowds along the way. I was really proud of Roanoke for hosting such a great day. This event has continued to grow in content and participation in its three year history and I sincerely hope that trend will continue so that the Blue Ridge Marathon will become even more of a signature event for our community.
