Content Marketing Chat #AIMSCdaChat

The AIMS Twitter chat on March 27, 2012, focused on Content Marketing and covered SEO and content, and ideas for planning topics.

  1. At the start we got into an interesting discussion on the use of SEO keywords within content versus the opinion that relevant content gets found. See which of these comments you agree with:
  2. I am old Skool - search is about relevance. Hard work+great content=being found #aimscdachat
  3. Do others agree? RT @mose: No I strive for great content first - not content driven by SEO #aimscdachat
  4. RT @mose: is it about content or SEO? #aimscdachat about a good mixture of both!
  5. Good SEO should be intrinsic to the content. Write about what your market wants, using their terms, good SEO comes naturally. #aimscdachat
  6. I listened to a presentation last week where speaker produces multiple versions of content to cover all search terms. Thoughts? #aimscdachat
  7. @AIMS_Canada I do not think that is what the Net was designed for? Cluetrain guy here! #aimscdachat
  8. @mose I know, but at the same time, can see his point, it's a business and you need to sell. Interested in opinions. #aimscdachat
  9. But you're looking for performance on actual sales/qualified leads, though, right, not random visitors. #aimscdachat
  10. We break SEO into 2 buckets: 1) hygiene (getting mechanics of findability right on-site), 2) relevance as @carlfriesen explaned #aimscdachat
  11. @nolin so if I did an article on The Biebs it solves all my probs as long as my SEO works? (joking) #aimscdachat
  12. @mose ultimately, "good" content connects with both your target's need & your value prop. one or the other doesn't work. #aimscdachat
  13. @nolin true. But I am talking about content vs SEO trickery #aimscdachat
  14. It's like an expert-written article in a business mag. Informative, but it shows the writer's expertise. Can this work for CM? #aimscdachat
  15. and then we digressed...
  16. @carlfriesen trade mags lost their respect when adv and editorial mergeed some time ago #aimscdachat
  17. actually, most trade mags outsource their editorial to 3rd party subject matter experts now. they can't afford editorial staff. #aimscdachat
  18. @mose SEO trickery (aka black hat SEO) doesn't deliver results anymore. useless traffic, sure. but who wants to pay for that? #aimscdachat
  19. Great content is about great writing, SMEs, having an original opinion and really knowing your audience. #aimscdachat
  20. To wrap it up, we got some insight into content planning. How do you plan your topics? How do you get unstuck when looking for something new?
  21. How to find topics -- one idea is to note anniversaries. How many "10 years after 911" articles did you read? Works for CM too. #aimscdachat
  22. re unstuck: i hear content curation is all the rage... #AIMSCdaChat
  23. One of my tricks was always looking for someone to do a Q&A with, or ask sales staff for common misconceptions you can counter. #aimscdachat
  24. if you start with target customer needs & figure out a handful of relevant categories, curation & repurposing are a breeze. #aimscdachat
