Moving Beyond the Ivory Tower- Reactions to AHA's New Member Benefit, Versatile PhD

  1. @AHAhistorians This is neat, but emphasizing confidentiality perpetuates the stigma surrounding leaving academia.
  2. .@ahahistorians VersatilePhD member benefit is awesome! BUT, confidentiality as a feature of using it reveals a BIG problem in grad training
  3. Like sentiment behind @AHAhistorians new "Versatile Phd" blog.historians.org/news/1813/vers… but stressing confidentiality makes it seem a dirty secret 1/2
  4. @tjowens @AHAhistorians I wasn't sure about that. And is it only for people who want #altac/non-academic posts after the PhD?
  5. @mia_out @tjowens @AHAhistorians Many people in the community are concerned about confidentiality for various reasons. 1/2
  6. @mia_out @tjowens @AHAhistorians And yes, it is focused on people seeking #altac and non-academic positions.
  7. @alexisan75 @mia_out @ahahistorians academic means lots of things. We should take care classifying a class of work as not academic #altac
  8. @tjowens @alexisan75 @ahahistorians I have no idea what I want to do in or out of academia after my PhD! Surely that's half the point?
  9. @mia_out right, but whatever you do I would hazard to guess you will do it with an academic mindset and as a historian :)
